A Colour Lover’s Guide to Christmas Decorating

A Colour Lover’s Guide to Christmas Decorating

‘Tis the season where our unbridled enthusiasm for decorating is unleashed – and justifiably so – with Christmas around the corner.

The house smells like fresh pine, we’re baking pavlova, and we’re already starting to crank up the Christmas playlist in late November. The holiday cheer is in the air and no fireplace mantel will be spared a little festive accoutrement – jingle bells, glittering fairy lights and our Bonnie and Neil Christmas stockings – we’ve got it all.

Here’s our Bonnie and Neil guide to Christmas decorating that pleasantly goes beyond red and green. You can also shop our Christmas collection here – we deliver almost faster than Rudolph and his sleigh.

Give your Christmas tree a glow-up

The first hallmark of holiday decorating is finding the perfect tree. We like to go fresh because there’s nothing like the smell of fresh pine in your home 24/7 and we’ll do anything to soak up this (very temporary) sensory bliss.

Now it probably won’t surprise you that when it comes to decorating our tree we lean into full maximalist mode. This year we’re swapping the tinsel and bows for extra fairy lights, glass baubles and a new wonderful addition – our Bonnie and Neil collection of crochet Christmas ornaments. We’ll be hanging our cherry, tomato, lemon and orange crochet ornaments off every branch, and using them as napkin rings, which we’ll gift to our friends and family at Christmas lunch.

Embrace candy cane inspired stripes

Candy canes are so quintessentially Christmas it would be almost unforgivable to not include them in this list – but we’re doing so with a Bonnie and Neil twist. Inspired by the holiday’s season after dinner mint and shortcut to fresh breath, we’ve taken the stripes we love so much and launched them into a new design era.

Instead of the traditional diagonal white and red stripe emblazoned on almost everything come December, we’ve opted for big, thick vertical stripes in pink-red and green-blue hues. We’ll be getting the couch ready for endless streams of once-a-year holiday movies with a scattering of our Big Stripe Mint and Cerise cushions.

Set the table to impress

The festive table might be one of our favourite things about this time of year with loved ones gather around the table cracking bonbons and sharing good times. The table is also the center stage for long Christmas lunches and dinners, there’s food everywhere, and it’s the one time of year where you never choose between pavlova and trifle – you have a serve of both.

For the entertainer who wants a table setting to impress, reach for our Kalamata print featuring luscious fruit amongst a background of silver-tipped leaves. We’ll be bringing our festive table to life with our Kalamata print tablecloth and Big stripe burgundy napkins with fresh flowers (and maybe even a few olive branches!).

Christmas stockings with personality

Christmas stockings are a necessity in the colour lover’s festive decor toolkit – they look amazing and the perfect place to stash that little special something for your family. This year we designed a collection of Christmas stockings for the entire family (dog included!).

For your favourite four-legged companion, we have the Poinsettia Puppy Stocking – a cute, bone-shaped stocking crafted from quilted cotton and adorned with our poinsettia applique design. And of course, we’ve taken note of our dog’s wishlist and stocked up on extra liver treats from Santa!
