The bedroom is one of the best rooms in the house to decorate freely without the influence of others because it’s our own personal retreat.
Unlike the living room or kitchen that are buzzing hubs of activity dominated by high foot traffic, the bedroom is a place of stillness and often exists behind a closed door that’s truly you.
It’s no secret the bedroom is the first and last place we spend our days, and we’ve learned over the years how important choosing a colour palette is to creating a calming mood in the room where calmness should always reign.
Here’s our Bonnie and Neil guide to using colour in the bedroom to create a harmonious and relaxing retreat where you can rest and recharge in style.
Blues
From the ocean to the sky, if you’re looking to set a serene scene in your bedroom then blue is the hue for you. The colour blue in interiors is a shortcut to creating a calming space where you can unwind and let the day’s activities float away.
For zen-filled nocturnal bliss, style your bed with a cluster of cushions in a blue tonal palette with our painterly floral prints. We also like to throw in one block coloured blue cushion to create a visual balance between the prints.
The cushion trio we’ll be reaching for this season is our Flannel Flower Blue cushion, Tulip Blue Cushion and Levan Blue Cushion.
Greens
Bringing lush, verdant greens indoors is never not a good idea – especially in the bedroom. Whether you literally bring the outdoors in with a plant on your bedside table or embrace all things green through colour, this photosynthetic hue will instantly rejuvenate even the most tired bodies after a long day.
Our autumn-winter Woodlands collection is inspired by the wonderful abundance of nature and the wild beauty within, and we’ll be dressing our bed in lush layers of green.
We’ll start with our Mave Rosetta Khaki Quilted Throw, crafted from stonewashed linen for an ultra-soft feel, this double-side throw features hand-painted blooms inspired by woodcutting techniques on one side, and large scale floral akin to the wild beauty of rose arbours. To complete the look, we’ll be pairing pillowcases in varied sizes in shades of green – the duo high on our wish list is Rosetta Khaki European Pillowcases with our Mave Khaki Pillowcases.
Our Grid Mint Wool Rug or Stripe Mint Wool Rug would also make an excellent addition to any bedroom embracing tonal greens, and bonus they are soft to touch as soon as you hop out of bed. We always position rugs in the bedroom one-third of the way down the bed frame to create the illusion of more space.

Pinks
Muted pinks and berries inject warmth in a room like nothing else and are especially welcome additions to any interior space during the cooler months of the year. These colours will instantly make you feel toasty and visually nourished.
Designed for year-round comfort, our Mave Rosetta Pink Quilted Throw will transform any bedroom into a relaxing oasis with its rich palette of pink, berry and perfect blooms.
We’ll layer this look with a mix-match scattering of pillowcases and cushions in different sizes in various berry hues. On high rotation will be our Rosetta Pink Pillowcases, Mave Pink European Pillowcases, Wool Marle Pink Cushion and our Mave Rose Bolster.
For extra warmth and contrast, try our new Stripe Orange bedding. Woven in a vibrant blend of orange, cocoa and blush tones, it pairs beautifully with pinks and adds a sun-kissed depth that makes the whole palette glow.
