When the weather cools down, there’s nothing better than walking into a home that feels instantly warm and inviting. But you don’t need a full redesign to make it happen. With just a few thoughtful tweaks, you can transform the mood of a room in minutes. Here's how:
Layer your textiles
A couple of extra cushions, a throw over the arm of the sofa, a rug underfoot - it’s amazing what a little layering can do. We love mixing textures like wool, boucle, and linen, and reaching for richer tones this time of year (ochre, olive, rust - yes please).
Switch on the lamps
Nothing transforms a space faster than the right lighting. We tend to keep overhead lights off in favour of soft pools of light - a lamp in the corner, one on the sideboard. It instantly shifts the mood.
Add a hint of scent
Candles, incense, or even a handful of herbs in a vase - scent is such a powerful way to make a space feel grounded and inviting. Right now we’re loving lavender, rosemary, and anything with a hint of earthiness.
Bring in texture
Wool, boucle, linen, jute - tactile materials make a space feel lived-in and loved. Choose a mix of textures to create visual and sensory warmth.
Set the table (just because)
You don’t need guests to enjoy a beautiful table. Layer a linen tablecloth, add your favourite plates or a bowl of fruit, and light a candle - just for you. It’s a small act that changes how a room feels.
Making your home feel warmer isn’t about having more - it’s about choosing pieces that bring comfort, joy, and a sense of care. Whether it’s a new cushion or just lighting a candle, little changes go a long way.
